Damien Dempsey from Dublin Performing at Brighton Music Hall in Boston, September 6


Damien Dempsey, one of Ireland’s most original and distinctive singer/songwriters, is performing at the Brighton Music Hall in Boston on Friday, September 6, 2013 at 9:00 p.m.  Tickets to the show are $25 and can be purchased online.

 Born and raised in working class Dublin, Dempsey’s music has always captured the everyday people struggling to keep it all together while enjoying life to the fullest.  His new album, Almighty Love, broadens this perspective to include a sense of the world and the larger issues of our times.

Solas, top Irish traditional band, performing at Lowell Music Series on Saturday, August 31


Solas, considered one of the best Irish traditional ensembles performing today, is appearing at the Lowell Summer Music Series in Lowell Massachusetts on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 7:30 p.m.  

Tickets are $29 in advance and $35 on the day of the concert.

The Boston Irish Tourism Association is raffling off a pair of free tickets to the contest.  To enter to win, go to the contest page and submit your entry.

Formed 15 years ago and led by Seamus Egan and Winnie Horan, Solas has produced ten albums and toured the world.

Festival Celtique de Quebec, August 29 to September 8, Celebrates Canada's Irish and Scottish Heritage


Canada's annual Celtic Festival of Quebec is taking place in Quebec City on August 29 through September 8, 2013.

The festival kicks off on Thursday, August 29,  with a whiskey and cheese reception at the Morrin Center, followed by a Celtic gathering at L'Auberge Internationale de Quebec at 8:00 p.m, featuring live music  Here are more details

Highlights of this year's festival includes a concert by Irish uilleann piper Paddy Keenan on Friday, August 30, a Celtic parade through Quebec on Saturday, August 31, and a street ceili dance on Sunday, September 1.  The festival ends with a Highland Games celebration on Sunday, September 8, at St. Patrick's High School.  Here is a full schedule of activities

Makem & Spain Brothers Perform at Irish Cultural Centre in Canton on Friday, August 23


The popular Irish singing group Makem & Spain Brothers performs an outdoor concert at the Irish Cultural Centre in Canton, Massachusetts on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets to the show are $18 in advance and $22 at the gate.  You can purchase tickets online here.

Canada's Great Big Sea Performs at Lowell Music Series on Friday, August 23


Great Big Sea, which hails from Newfoundland in the Canadian Maritimes, is performing at the Lowell Summer Music Series in Lowell Massachusetts on Friday, August 23, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $28 in advance and $35 the day of the concert and can be purchased online.

The Clancy Tradition Performs Irish Music in Chatham, Cape Cod on Saturday, August 10

Irish Cultural Center Hosts Filmmaker Alan Brown to Discuss The Minnitts of Anabeg on Friday, August 9

 The Irish Cultural Centre of New England has invited Irish filmmaker Alan Brown to air his new film The Minnitts of Ababeg on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 8:00 p.m.  Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door.  Mr. Brown will speak about the film after the showing.

The film tells the story of the Irish Famine and the an English family in Nenagh, Tipperary who was caught between helping the Irish and saving the family.  The film won the Best Screenwriting Award at the  International Film Festival of Ireland.
