Seaport Hotel Welcomes Irish Music Masters for St. Patrick’s Day Celebration
(Boston) - The Seaport Boston Hotel has booked legendary Irish fiddle player Seamus Connolly to perform in March as part of the hotel’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in America’s most Irish city.
Considered one of the world’s finest exponents of traditional Irish music, Connolly is being joined by Laurel Martin on fiddle and Kevin McElroy, a multi-instrumentalist and singer.
The trio will be playing in Tamo, a sophisticated contemporary bar in the Seaport Hotel on March 13, 14, 16 and 17 (see full dates and times below). There is no cover charge, and dinner and Hors d'oeuvres are available presented by the critically acclaimed Aura and Tamo Chef Rachel Klein, as well as specialty cocktails and a superb wine list. Aura Restaurant in the Seaport Hotel features a contemporary menu with specials inspired by Irish traditions.
“We’re delighted to have Seamus Connolly’s group perform as the house band for the hotel during St। Patrick’s Day weekend,” says James Carmody, general manager of the Seaport. “It will be a great way for conventioneers and guests staying at our hotel – as well as local residents who love good music – to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day season in a stylish setting while listening to masters of Irish traditional music.”
Connolly is a ten-time All-Ireland fiddle champion and one of the most influential Irish musicians of his generation. A native of Killaloe, County Clare, Connolly moved to New England in the 1970s and has helped to revitalize the Irish music scene in the region. He holds an endowed Chair at Boston College as the “Sullivan Artist in Residence,” and performs at music festivals and summer music schools around the world. He has appeared on dozens of recordings, and has two solo albums, Here and There and Notes from My Mind.
Laurel Martin is an accomplished musician who studied with Connolly under a Traditional Arts apprenticeship grant from the National Endowment for the Arts from 1990-1993. In 2002 the Massachusetts Cultural Council awarded Laurel a Traditional Arts Master grant, this time as a master teacher. She has taught the fiddle at Boston College and is director of the Fiddleheads ensemble at Wellesley College. Her latest CD is titled The Groves.
Kevin McElroy is a talented performer on various stringed instruments, including the fiddle, banjo, mandolin and guitar। He is also a gifted singer who performs at festivals across the United States and Canada. Kevin is an accomplished restorer of fine stringed instruments and has studied under master restorer Hans Nebel. His latest CD is titled Irish Music for the Mandolin.
