Author Christopher Klein Discusses 'When the Irish Invaded Canada' at Lawrence Heritage State Park

Author and history writer Christopher Klein is giving a lecture and reading from his new book, When the Irish Invaded Canada, at the at the Lawrence Heritage State Park at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2019.  It is free and open to the public.

The event is part of Lawrence's Irish Heritage Month, which celebrates the city's unique Irish heritage and traditions.

Well-regarded by New England audiences for his biography Strong Boy: the Life and Times of John L. Sullivan, Klein’s new book takes readers on an audacious historical journey to the late 1860s, when Civil War veterans, many of them born in Ireland, hatched a plot to invade Canada to strike a blow against the British Empire.  This radicalized and idealistic group, patriotic to both Ireland and the United States, hoped to undermine Britain’s centuries-long oppression of Ireland by causing a disruption in Canada, known as British North America.

Klein is also talking about his book at the Boston Public Library on March 14, and in other New England venues. Here is Chris' schedule
