Massport Celebrates Terminal E Improvements and 100th Anniversary of Boston's Logan International Airport
The improvements were made in part thanks to a $62 million grant by the FAA as a part of the new Airport Terminal Program. The grant was announced in September 2022 when President Joe Biden joined the Massachusetts congressional delegation and airport officials to celebrate the funding.
Along with four new gates at Terminal E, improvements include a new, state-of-the-art TSA 7-lane security checkpoints; an expanded Arrivals Level curb; expanded ticketing area; 100,000+ sq. footage of modern hold room and concession space; enhanced outbound baggage handling system and baggage claim capacity; and advanced amenities and diversified seating options to enhance the passenger experience.
A statue honoring Logan was created by sculptor Joseph Coletti and unveiled at the airport on May 20, 1956. His wife attended, along with his daughter Patricia, who unveiled the statue, and son Edward, Jr.
Once through the new security checkpoint, passengers flow into an open space with high ceilings drenched in natural light where they will find a number of new concessions, departure lounges and can access new airline clubs on the fourth level. The project included construction of approximately 390,000 square feet and renovations to the existing Terminal E structure to create a unified building. Logan in 1956.
