FLEADH CHEOIL NA hÉHIREANN

Ireland's traditional music is one of the world's most vibrant and enduring folk traditions, and retains its vitality and relevance year after year, producing new generations of musicians, singers, dancers and storytellers.

Start your musical journal this summer by visiting these traditional music gatherings,  and also check out  live Irish music, readily found in pubs and cafes, street corners and town squares and concert halls across the island of Ireland. 


GAIRLOCH

The 52nd Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy Summer School in Miltown Malbay, Co. Clare, from July 6-14, honors Ireland’s great uilleann piping tradition, exemplified by Clare’s own Willie Clancy himself.  This year the event welcomes the Canadian group Gairloch, to teach at the summer school and perform recitals and concerts throughout the week.

MARY DILLON, DÓNAL O'CONNOR & NEIL MARTIN

The 6th Annual Belfast Trad Fest and Summer School in Northern Ireland’s capital city, from July 21-28, offers amazing outdoor and indoor concerts, fiery pub sessions & Ireland’s fastest growing summer school of traditional music.  Among this year's performers are Lunasa, Cherish the Ladies, the Bow Brothers, and the exquisite trio of Mary Dillon, Donal O'Connor and Neil Martin.

FRANKIE GAVIN AND DE DANNON

The Ballyshannon Folk and Traditional Music Festival, from August 1-4, features some of Ireland's most notable traditional performers, including Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny and Frankie Gavin and DeDannon as well as other great performers throughout the festival.

FLEADH CHEOIL NA hÉHIREANN

By far the biggest Irish traditional music gathering in the world is the annual Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann, taking place from August 4-11 in Wexford Town. Launched in the 1950s, the Fleadh attracts musicians, singers, dancers and music lovers from around the world to compete as individuals and bands, share tunes and be inspired by Ireland’s storied musical traditions. 

FEILE CHEOIL LARRY REYNOLDS 

The season caps off with the Féile Cheoil Larry Reynolds in Ballinasloe, Galway on September 5-8. Named for fiddle legend Larry Reynolds, a Ballinasloe native who emigrated to Boston as a young many and sparked a traditional music renaissance, starting the local Comhaltas chapter and leading the session scene for many years.
