With the win, the Free Jacks join Seattle as the only clubs to win two MLR Shields and back-to-back championships.

Jed Melvin, Player of the Match, said, “From the start, I’ve learned that the Free Jacks are more than just a rugby team. We’re a community, we’re a family, and we look out for each other. The brotherhood of this team is incredible, and now we did it back to back, so it is all pretty special."

The Free Jacks represent all six New England states on and off the field in Major League Rugby (MLR), the premier North American professional league. Quincy has been the home of the Free Jacks since June 2021, when the partnership with City of Quincy and Heritage Sports Ventures was announced to relocate to the newly renovated Veterans Memorial Stadium in Quincy.

Known as the “City of Presidents,” Quincy is the birthplace of the second and sixth U.S. Presidents, John Adams and his son, John Quincy Adams, as well as Abigail Adams, who played an outsized role in the Adams family and in the birth of the nation during the American Revolution.  Check out Quincy's Presidents Trial, which includes Adams National Historic Park and other important landmarks.

This summer, Quincy rolled out a brand new Welcome Center on Hancock Street. Mayor Thomas P. Koch says the new Center is part of the Legible City initiative, whose "goal over the past year and a half is to continue to make places of interest in the City discoverable, explore formats to engage visitors and citizens in public history, and help the City learn more about citizen interests in regards to public spaces.”

Additionally, there is a concerted effort underway by city leaders, tourism officials, historians and businesses to prepare for the 400th anniversary of the city's founding in 2025. Quincy has created an organization, Quincy 400, to help with the celebrations.

DiscoverQuincy.com, the city's tourism agency, is a year round marketing initiative that celebrates Quincy's incredible assets in history and heritage, arts and culture, cuisine and dining and outdoor amenities.
