2026 Irish Flag Raising Ceremonies in Massachusetts this St. Patrick's Day Season

Every March, Massachusetts celebrates Irish-American Heritage Month and St. Patrick's Day in honor of the Irish Diaspora and also Ireland's patron saint.  In addition to St. Patrick's Day parades and Irish cultural events, Boston Irish Tourism Association has compiled this schedule of annual Irish flag raising ceremonies taking place throughout the Bay State. 

Sunday, March 1
HOLYOKE
2:30 p.m.
JFK Memorial Plaza507 Appleton Street
The Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade Committee raises the Irish flag as a lead up to its parade on March 22.


Monday, March 2
LAWRENCE
11 a.m.
Lawrence City Hall on Common Street
Sponsored by AOH Division 8, men's and women's chapters, and local Irish organizations

Monday, March 2
SALEM
Noon
Riley Plaza, Washington and Margin Streets
In celebration of Irish-American Heritage Month.

Monday, March 2
HOLYOKE
10 a.m.
Holyoke City Hall
Sponsored by AOH Division 1 Men's and Division 2 Women's, the ceremony takes place at 536 Dwight Street at City Hall.



Wednesday, March 4
BOSTON
11 a.m.
Boston City Hall Plaza
City of Boston's annual flag raising is followed by refreshment and a reception inside City Hall.

Sunday, March 15
LOWELL
11:15 a.m.
Procession from St Patrick's Church to City Hall to raise the flag, and to lay a wreath at the Irish monument nearby. The flag raising is part of the Annual Lowell Irish Week.

Tuesday, March 17
SPRINGFIELD
9 a.m.
Mass at Sacred Heart Church, followed by Irish flag raising at City Hall. The flag raising is organized by the Springfield St. Patrick's Parade Committee.

Tuesday, March 17
9 a.m. Flag raising at Worcester City Hall, with City Councilor Kate Toomey and other officials.

General Edward L. Logan (1875-1939), namesake of Boston’s Logan International Airport , died on July 6 1939 from a sudden 'heart ailment.'  His brother, Reverend Leo J. JFK Library presents Forum on new biography of Ernest Hemingway on Wednesday, October 12

The John F. Kennedy Presidential Library is presenting author Paul Hendrickson to discuss his new biography of Ernest Hemingway on Wednesday, October12, 2011, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Tickets are free but you must register to attend. The book, entitled  Hemingway's Boat: Everything He Loved and Lost in Life, 1934- 1961 , explores Hemingway's life as seen through his long relationship with his beloved boat, Pilar. The Kip Tiernan Memorial is located in Boston's Back Bay on Dartmouth Street between Newbury and Boylston streets, next to Old South Church, and honors her relentless fight for economic and social justice, and her special attention to helping homeless women. She is best known for founding Rosie’s Place on Easter Sunday in 1974, the first shelter in America to specifically address the issues confronting homeless women.
