American Civil War Exhibit Opens in Lawrence, Massachusetts on Sunday, March 6

A new exhibit entitled Hometown Heroes: The Lawrence Irish and the Civil War opens at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the Lawrence Heritage State Park Visitors Center, One Jackson Street in Lawrence.  The exhibit is on display through March 31, 2011.

The exhibit was created by the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 8, an Irish-American group that organizes the Irish Heritage Month celebrations each year.  The exhibit honors the 2,617 people from Lawrence who enlisted in the American Civil War, with an emphasis on the Irish immigrants who served during that conflict.

As part of the opening reception, Dr. Sean Condon of Merrimack College is giving a lecture entitled "President Lincoln's Response to the Baltimore Riot."
