Paddy Moloney, tin whistle player and uileann piper, formed The Chieftains in 1962,
with a vision to create an ensemble of virtuosic musicians that sounded
orchestral and harmonic without losing the touch of abandon inherent in the
music. Since then the band has toured the world as one of the most
innovative and successful folk bands in the world.
