Professor Catherine Shannon Lectures on USS Jamestown Voyage from Boston to Cork in 1847


Professor  Catherine Shannon is giving a lecture on the USS Jamestown, which carried food, medical supplies and other provisions to the people of Ireland during the height of the Irish Famine in 1847.

The lecture takes place at the Irish Cultural Centre in Canton on Friday, February 27, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $12 general admission and $10 for ICC members.

A long time member of the American Conference of Irish Studies, former history professor at Westfield State College, author and scholar, Shannon is organizing an exhibition of the USS Jamestown at the Forbes Museum in Milton,where many of the ships artifacts are stored.  Captain Robert B. Forbes was the Bostonian who organized the famous journey of the USS Jamestown.
