An Gorta Mor Memorial Commemoration in Lawrence MA on Saturday, June 1

The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 8, is holding its annual commemoration of the Irish Famine at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Lawrence at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2019.

The ceremony takes place at the An Gorta Mor memorial, which was unveiled in May 2006 as a tribute to the Irish refugees of the mid-19th century who came to Massachusetts and New England after fleeing starvation and disease in Ireland.

The ceremony also celebrates AOH Division 8 members who are celebrating their 50 year membership anniversary, and Veterans who served in the Armed Forces.

The ceremony is being led by Division 8 Chaplain, Reverend John W. Delaney.  AOH historian Bob Bateman is giving an address about the Famine.

Immaculate Conception Cemetery is located at 29 Barker Street in Lawrence.

In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held at the Mausoleum on the grounds of the cemetery. Light refreshments follow the ceremony.
