Cape Cod St. Patrick's Parade is Taking Place on Saturday, September 18

Cape Cod is turning green in September!

The St. Patrick's Parade of Cape Cod, postponed in March due to the pandemic, is taking place this Saturday, September 18, 2021, starting at 11 a.m.  Now in its 16th year, the parade was delayed by six months to fully comply with the Massachusetts Reopening guidelines for large, outdoor events.

Rather than selecting a single Grand Marshall, as in years past, this year's St. Patrick's Parade of Cape Cod honors the essential workers, first responders and front line workers who helped Massachusetts survive the COVID-19 pandemic.

"This amazing group of people went to work tirelessly, day after day, month after month, masked, gloved and at times in full body suits, not knowing what new challenges the day would bring," wrote Committee Chairman Desmond Keogh.  "The list of essential workers includes (but not restricted to) the following: grocery store workers, USPS, delivery truck drivers, tradesmen and women, restaurant workers, teachers, nursing care facility personnel, all health care workers, all public works personnel, along with all Police, Firefighters and all first responders."

The parade follows the same route as in past years, starting from the intersection of Route 28 and Long Pond Drive in South Yarmouth, and heading west along Route 18 to Higgins Crowell Road in West Yarmouth.

Masks are not required, since the parade is outdoors, but spectators can decide whether to wear them along the route.

In addition to marching bands, stilt walkers and Clydesdales, three pipe bands are attending, including the Boston Police Gaelic Column of Pipes & Drums, the Irish American Police Officers Association of Pipes and Drums, and the Highland Light Scottish Pipe Band.
