Celebrate Robert Burns Night in New England in January 2023, in honor of the Scottish Bard


Since 1801, lovers of Scottish poetry and song have celebrated the life of Scotland's great bard, Robert Burns, on the occasion of his birthday, which was January 25, 1759.

New England has a vibrant community of Scots-Americans who are always in form to gather for authentic Scottish fare and fashion, for a taste of haggis, whisky, songs and poems, for ceilidh dancing and good cheer. Here are a few celebrations taking place in 2023.

All of the traditional Scottish foods are on this year's menu, including haggis and clapshot, beef, lamb and venison, sticky toffee pudding and cheddar and oak cakes, followed by a toast of Kilchoman Single Malt Scotch whisky.

This annual Robert Burns gathering features Scottish food and whisky, haggis, piping, dance, good cheer and good poetry. The event is hosted by Scottish Arts, Inc., a non-profit organization that teaches Highland dance, bagpipes, fiddle and drum throughout the year.

Master of Ceremonies Joe Scott leads the celebration for the 9th consecutive year, with an evening of song, poetry and authentic Scottish cuisine, along with live music, and toasts to the Scottish Bard.

Master of Ceremonies Ian Gauthier kicks off the evening with a recitation of TheSelkirk Grace, the prayer of thanks written by Burns, followed by good food and whisky, songs and poems, and music by the Catamount Pipe Band and guest singer Reverend Arnold Thomas and the Green Mountain Celts.

An authentic, traditional and classy night, presented by Scots in New England, with everyone dressed in their finest, enjoying an evening of Burns poems and songs, along with dancing and music and a ceilidh to end the evening.
