Boston Launches Mná Mheiriceá, a New Organization of Irish Women

A group of Irish women in greater Boston have launched a new organization to create "an enterprising, independent, future-oriented community," that builds upon "the legacy Irish women have built in America" over past generations.

Mná Mheiriceá, which is Irish for Women of America, was created by co-founders Martina Curtin, Aoife Griffin, and Megan Greeley with strong ties to Ireland and greater Boston.  The group is open to women of all backgrounds.

In a statement, the co-founders write, 'We are a convener and resource for the new graduate, the mother, and the executive who understand that it is not just raising a child that takes a village, but raising ourselves as well. Mná Mheiriceá strives to convene women regardless of background to understand and celebrate all it is to be a woman.

"Mná Mheiriceá is as an open door networking group for women of all backgrounds. Our events are suitable for women of all ages, and we strive to build a future-orientated community here in the greater Boston region. While our roots are Irish, we know the experience of women as immigrants, mothers, and leaders is part of every culture and our spaces are open to anyone seeking connection."

In a recent Boston Globe story, Curtin told reporter Jon Chesto that local women have noticed "a void for professional women beyond the status quo of networking events," and Mná Mheiriceá will seek to fill that void by hosting 'women-centered professional, wellness, and social events that are accessible to all members of our community regardless of employment history, background, education, or age."

The group's first event takes place on Thursday, March 9 at the Boston Harbor Hotel, and is being sponsored by Invest Northern Ireland.  For more information, please contact info@mnámheiriceá.com
