HARVARD ART MUSEUMS IN CAMBRIDGE NOW OFFER FREE ADMISSION TO ALL VISITORS

This summer, Harvard Art Museums announced a new, permanent free admission policy for all visitors, effective June 23. The new policy represents a significant expansion of free access to the museums’ collections, exhibitions, and research for public audiences.

Granting free admission represents a significant new investment in opening the museums and collections to residents of the Greater Boston area as well as those visiting from around the world, according to museum officials.  Harvard University and Harvard Square are major attractions to visitors.

“We are thrilled to implement this new comprehensive free admission policy, which will remain in place permanently,” said Martha Tedeschi, the Elizabeth and John Moors Cabot Director of the Harvard Art Museums. “Taking this step represents our deep commitment to serving all audiences, enhancing our mission of teaching and research, and becoming a center where discovery, exchange, inclusion, and learning can flourish for all. Increasing numbers of longtime supporters and new friends alike have been showing us that we have something unique to offer in the cultural landscape and that we are a welcoming place to experience art and community together.”

The museums are open to visitors Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (except major holidays), and during monthly Harvard Art Museums at Night programs on the last Thursday evening of each month.

This new initiative is made possible by a generous contribution from the Estate of David Rockefeller and support from the Office of the President at Harvard University.

General Edward L. Logan (1875-1939), namesake of Boston’s Logan International Airport , died on July 6 1939 from a sudden 'heart ailment.'  His brother, Reverend Leo J. Damian McGinty, former Celtic Thunder Star, Performs in Hartford and Providence this Fall

Damian McGinty , the young singing star from Derry, Northern Ireland who performed with Celtic Thunder , is returning to New England in October as part of a national tour with  Ethan Bortnick . They will be performing in Hartford, CT on October 5, followed by two shows in Providence, RI on October 12, 2014. Find details here. McGinty was part of the original Celtic Thunder ensemble for several years, and left the band in 2012 when he won a coveted spot on the television show Glee .  Since then he has embarked on a solo career that has taken him around the world.  In 2013 McGinty was Cultural Ambassador for his home city of Derry, Northern Ireland . Commemorate the 25th Anniversary of Boston Irish Famine Memorial on June 28, 2023

On Wednesday, June 28, the Irish community from greater Boston is gathering alongside public officials, businesses and immigrant organizations to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Boston Famine Memorial. The event, which is free and open to the public, runs from 11 a.m. to Noon and features reflections from local leaders as well as traditional Irish music and a blessing of the memorial park and of those gathered.  Please check back for updated information  in the coming days  Thank you.
