Belfast 2024 offers a year round celebration Art, Music, Nature and Creativity in Northern Ireland's Capital City

An exciting new program of culture, creativity and nature exploration is being launched by the City of Belfast in Northern Ireland this year.  Belfast 2024 is a year-long celebrate of the city's distinctive culture and vibrancy, built around the themes Our People, Our Place and Our Planet.

Among the offerings in 2024:

Art installations.  Multiple art installations include Power Plants by Oliver Jeffers this July, a forest of sculptural chimneys topped with flowers. This Belfast City Hall exhibit explore the issue of sustainability.  Then in autumn, the Titanic dry dock welcomes an art display called Shadow Dock, an immersive installation using light, shadow, color and sound.

Musical celebrations.  As a UNESCO City of Music, Belfast continues to develop and strengthen its musical credentials.  In August, Belfast celebrates its black culture in a musical journey that spans the  1845 to 2024, performed by So Lab Collective in the city centre. Later in the year the Ulster Orchestra presents a major concert along with contemporary headliners.

Theater and Performing Arts. In summer, an outdoor event called 'Since the River Went on Fire' features music, dance and puppetry. Then in  November, Tuartha presents dance theatre combining arts and dance with poetry and Irish music and language.  And a theatrical journey called 'Are you on the Bus' travels through Belfast’s queer pasts, presents and possible futures, while 'Hear, Touch, Feel' explores touch through choreography, fabrics, audio and video narratives.

Maritime Heritage.  Belfast is famous as the birthplace of the Titanic, and 2024 offers a series of events celebrating the waterfront. Among them is a project that aims to build 10,000 boats of all sizes, and a floating, inhabitable pavilion on the River Lagan is being designed to stimulate conversation about the river’s potential to be a vital public space.

In addition to these Belfast 2024 initiatives, visitors can enjoy the annual Belfast International Arts Festival and  the Belfast Film Festival, both held in autumn.
