It began on Friday, November 29, with the annual Christmas Tree lighting on Hancock Adams Common. The spectacle featured a musical performance by award-winning singer Michelle Brooks Thompson. Other entertainments at the tree lighting include stilt walkers, jugglers, fire shows and Victorian carolers. The City of Quincy offered free popcorn, apple cider donuts, coffee and hot chocolate, while Montilio's Bakery offered pizza and desserts. A giant screen played favorite holiday movies throughout the event.

The Quincy Chamber of Commerce's  Kilroy Square Holiday Market on Cottage Street had hundreds of artisan vendors, food purveyors, and gift shops displaying their wares under heated tents with festive decorations and music.  The Kilroy Square Holiday Market is back again on December 6-8.

On Saturday, November 30, Santa Claus arrived by helicopter to Merrymount Park with presents and good cheer for the Quincy kids and their families. And that evening the Marina Bay Business Association, along with Mayor Koch and the Quincy Chamber of Commerce, held its Light It Up’ event at Marina Bay, illuminating the boardwalk and offering fun, family-friendly events to the public.

The 2.8 mile parade went up Hancock Street from Walter J. Hannon Parkway to North Quincy High School.
